Numerous student-athletes along with athletic staff took part in Henderson State’s community service event entitled “Reddie to Serve” this past Saturday.
The project is the brainchild of Dr. Lewis Shepherd, Vice President for External Affairs, who organizes the event. The project brings Henderson State students, faculty and staff together to volunteer and assist local residents in Arkadelphia.
"This is a great opportunity to ensure that our student-athletes are exercising life in the balance,” said HSU Director of Athletics Kale Gober. “It's great for the kids to see the administrators and coaches in a different light-serving the members of our community. This lesson surpasses anything that our staff can teach them in a practice, the lesson of servanthood. It is flattering to our department that this event is held during our football bye week as this is no coincidence. We are privileged to be so involved, as Dr. Shepherd depends on us, and we are glad to answer the call and help our community while reaching these student-athletes in the process.”
